Relationship between Sam &Patrick

• Write about the relationship between two characters and how it is changing or developing. What are the characteristics of the relationship? What does work or not work? What is changing? How do they effect one another?

When Charlie meet them, he though they were a couple, because they lookedclose to each other. This means that they have a good relationship. Otherwise, Charlie wouldn’t think that they were together.

„I looked at them, and they looked really happy together. A good kind of happy.“

They are stepsiblings and also bestfriends.

They have a really good conaction because they can trust each other.

Questions to Charlie

Why does Charlie address his letters to an unnamed “friend”?

That is my first question because Charlie didn’t say who is the unnamed friend.

Why Charlie things that he is guilty about the death of his friend?

Charlie’s friend killed himself but Charlie things it is his fault and that is because he is so shy. But Charlie didn’t do anything

What are Charlie’s goals? What does he want?

At the end of the book he got the girl. But what does he want to do with his fears.

Write about a character and how she is changing or developing.

Sam is in high school and, along with her stepbrother, Patrick becomes friends with Charlie at their school’s football game. She quickly became one of the main influences in Charlie’s life. She was known for getting drunk and sleeping around, and she said that she has slept with many guys who treated her poorly.  As Sam continued to grow, she slowly began realizing that she is worth more and ended her sad cycle of sleeping around.

In senior year, Sam began dating  Craig, who seemed to be more interested in a physical relationship than an emotional one. In the novel, Charlie said that it seems Craig fails to listen to her as he always seems „distracted“.  He also noticed that Craig seemed more interested in himself than he was in Sam.

Nearing the end of the novel, Sam realized that Craig had been cheating on her throughout their relationship and broke it off with him. This quickly led to Charlie and Sam having a bit of an unofficial relationship before Sam headed off to college.

Conflicts

One of the conflicts is when Charlie loses a friend in the beginning of the book because he committed suicide. This is an internal conflict and it affects the plot because this is the main reason Charlie is so quiet and keeps to himself. He felt as if that boy was his only friend and when he died, he felt alone and it hurt him.
Another conflict is that Charlie thinks he’s in love with Sam and the problem is that Sam is a senior and Charlie is just starting high school and that wouldn’t work out. This is an external conflict and it affects the plot because Charlie eventually starts going on dates with another girl while he’s in love with Sam and it ends up messing everything up.

Write about what you are learning personally as a result of reading this text.

I learned alot in this text because this book shows you how important friendships are.

With a friend on your side, you are much stronger. Someone will help you no mather what you did.

In the book Charlie did some bad things but his friends haven forgiven him. And that is what matters.

Also a thing i learned is that sometimes you need to let things go and feel „infiniti“.

I liked reading the book because it is something diffrent. It is not like every normal high school book and that is what makes the story interesting.

Name five of the main themes of the novel

Guilty

One theme is how Charlie lost his aunt and why he is feeling guilty about her death.

Lovestory

The lovestory between Charlie and Sam.

You are not alone

Charlies feeling of loneliness. He is a shy boy and in the book he learn that nobody is alone.

Enjoy the moment

In the book , Charlie has a moment of true happiness where he expresses that, right there he feels infinite.

We are all affected by others

In the book every character has been affected and changed by members of their family or by their friends.

Sexuality

In the novel, Charlies sexual experiences are all very negative. Charlies friend Patrick gets caught with his boyfriend, who then rejects him. Then he kisses Charlie, who is just not into guys.

At any point, write about how you feel while reading a section of the book . Say how what is happening makes you feel and why.

In the 3 part Mary Elizabeth ( also a friend of the group ) is asking Charlie if he would like to go to the Sadie Hawkins dance with her. And he said yes!

I was a bit suprised because didnt he was in love with Sam. And i thought why do you go out with a girl, when you like someone else.

Describe a character from the book(e.g. physical characteristics, personality, likes, dislikes). Say why you like/dislike the character.

In the book Sam is one of the main characters. sam is a high school senior and Patricks (also a new friend of Charlie) stepsister. At the beginning of the novel ,Sam seems like she has everything : She is beautiful, she is spontaneous, and she has a group of friends who love her.

But she has like Charlie also personal demons. Sam was sexually abused as a child.

I like the character because she is cheerful and is a very strong woman.

Write down four questions you would like to ask a character. Say why you would like to ask These questions.

The character i would like to ask from this book is Charlie.

My question would be who is the friend he always writes and why he always writes to him about his experience.

Another question is why he does not just tell Sam, that he has feelings for her instead of just watching her dating other guys.

And last but not least what is the story between him and his aunt.

I would like to ask Charlie these questions because he is like a closed book and nobody knows why he behaves this way.
